Market Like a Hot Shot Episode 38: Momentum Like a Hotshot

The New Year spark is gone… and this is where most people lose the game. In Episode 38, Jeff and James break down the truth every entrepreneur needs to hear: motivation gets you started, but momentum is what gets you across the finish line.

Check out our new Episode here -

Market Like a Hot Shot Episode 38: Momentum Like a Hotshot

This time of year is the danger zone - especially in the Northeast. The days are short, the weather is gloomy, outdoor activities disappear, and Seasonal Affective Disorder hits hard. The excitement of January fades, and suddenly you’re tired, unfocused, and wondering why everything feels heavier than it did a few weeks ago. But this is exactly when momentum matters most. Jeff and James dig into why momentum beats motivation every time, how to push forward when your tank feels empty, and why day 30, day 45, and day 60 are where the real breakthroughs happen. They break down the difference between social media momentum and business momentum, the power of micro‑wins, and how to rebuild your rhythm when you’ve stalled. You’ll also hear one of the most powerful analogies of the episode: A seed grows underground long before it breaks the surface. Just because you can’t see progress doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Most people quit right before the moment everything starts to click. Inside this episode, you’ll learn: 🔥 Why momentum beats motivation 🔥 How to survive the post–New Year crash 🔥 How to restart when you’ve lost your rhythm 🔥 Why consistency compounds even when you can’t see results 🔥 How micro‑wins create unstoppable momentum 🔥 How systems protect your progress when motivation disappears If you’re dragging, discouraged, or stuck in the messy middle, then this episode is the fuel you need. If you’re on a roll, this episode will keep you sharp. And if you’re right on the edge of a breakthrough, this episode will push you through it. Hit play and build your momentum like a Hotshot. AIMC Health Tip - How to Motivate Yourself to Fitness in the Winter -

Every winter, it happens.

The alarm goes off. It’s dark. It’s cold. And the question sneaks in before your feet hit the floor: Does this really matter today? If you’ve ever lost your fitness momentum in winter, you’re not broken. You’re responding to a season that pulls us inward. The mistake isn’t slowing down—it’s believing that slowing down means stopping. Winter fitness isn’t about discipline. It’s about redefining what showing up looks like. Motivation Doesn’t Come First—Movement Does One of the biggest lies we tell ourselves is that motivation needs to strike before we work out. In winter, that spark rarely shows up on its own. Energy comes after movement, not before it. Some of my best workouts have started with a bargain: “Just ten minutes. If I still hate it, I can stop.” Almost every time, ten minutes turned into more—not because I suddenly felt inspired, but because my body remembered what it was capable of. Shift the Goal: From Crushing It to Keeping the Thread Winter is not the season for personal records and aesthetic pressure. It’s the season for continuity. Your only real goal is to keep the thread unbroken. Three workouts a week instead of five Strength over cardio to build warmth and stability Short, efficient sessions that respect your energy Consistency in winter is an act of self-respect. You’re telling yourself; I don’t disappear just because things are harder. Create a “Winter-Only” Fitness Identity Instead of fighting the season, lean into it. Build rituals that only exist in winter: Lifting heavier because your body craves grounding Slow warm-ups and deliberate cooldowns Indoor workouts that feel focused, not rushed There’s something powerful about training when no one’s watching—when it’s just you keeping a promise to yourself. Lower the Barrier, Raise the Standard Here’s the mindset shift that changes everything: Make starting easy. Make quitting uncomfortable. Lay out your clothes the night before. Choose workouts that don’t require mental negotiation. Remove friction wherever possible. At the same time, raise the standard for how you treat yourself: You don’t skip because you’re tired—you adjust You don’t wait for motivation—you create momentum You don’t punish yourself—you build yourself Winter Builds the Kind of Strength You Can’t See Anyone can work out when the days are long and energy is high. Winter asks a different question: Who are you when no one is cheering and progress feels quiet? The strength you build now isn’t flashy. It’s internal. It’s the kind that shows up as confidence, resilience, and trust in yourself when things get uncomfortable. You’re Not Starting Over—You’re Staying In If you miss a week, don’t spiral. If you lose rhythm, don’t quit. Winter fitness isn’t about perfection—it’s about staying in the conversation with your body. Show up imperfectly. Move a little. Try again tomorrow. Spring doesn’t reward intensity. It rewards the people who never fully walked away. And this winter, that can be you. The Isotonix Vitamin D K2 we promised -

Market Like a Hot Shot - Episode 30: Motivate Yourself Like a Hotshot

We’re kicking off 2026 with a different kind of Hotshot episode — one focused on motivation, mindset, and the real challenges entrepreneurs face behind the scenes. This isn’t the highlight‑reel version of success. This is the honest, supportive, “let’s get real for a minute” conversation that so many founders need at the start of a new year.

James and Jeff talk about the ups and downs of staying motivated, especially during the cold, gloomy stretch of winter when comparison, pressure, and self‑doubt tend to creep in. They share personal stories, what’s helped them push through tough moments, and why motivation isn’t about being fired up every day — it’s about showing up, building habits, and surrounding yourself with the right people. This episode is packed with practical tips, mindset shifts, and real‑world encouragement to help you start 2026 strong. If you’ve ever felt behind, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next step, this conversation is for you. Disclaimer: This episode touches on motivation and general well‑being. We’re not mental health professionals, and nothing in this episode should be taken as medical or therapeutic advice. If you ever feel overwhelmed, hopeless, or find yourself thinking about harming yourself or someone else, please reach out for help right away — talk to your doctor, someone you trust, or a local hotline in your area. Why Peddling Solar on a Saturday Night In Winter is Not A Good Idea - Some Sales Tips by DeSocial Connector

It was a cold winter Saturday night in New England.   After coming in after the latest round of shoveling snow, my wife and I heard someone knocking loudly at our front door.    We were thinking who can it be?  One of our annoying neighbors looking for some scotch, or Jehovah Witnesses?   It was really weird.   My wife's first though was to call the cops thinking someone was trying to break into our house and was waiting for us to open the door.

So we yelled out "Who is it!" and some dude named Martin started some sales pitch at the top of his lungs stating that he can install solar panels on my roof free of charge and save us tons of money on utility costs.  He went on and on while our door was still shut, stating all sorts of testimonials about solar straight out of his sales manual.

Ok, there is about 5 or 6 inches of snow on my roof and it is dark in the middle of winter, and this guy was trying to sell me solar panels?  Now I know we are in desperate times and those solar sales personnel are pretty aggressive, but it winter!  and it is dark, and there is snow on my roof.    Is he going to clear the snow off my roof too?

Needless to say, we mentioned about 8 or 9 times and said we were not interested until he finally went away.   We warned our neighbors about the solar night owl and a few responded back saying yup he was there and they proceeded to show him the door.

Martin's Saturday night sales promo of solar on a cold dark winter's night struck a big fat 0.  The poor guy probably felt dejected and wonder how can it be.  Doesn't anyone want to save money on their utilities?

I am not a sales professional, but wanted to provide some insight to Martin regarding some tips he can considered as he ventures out there in the coming months and hit that sales quota.

TIMING: You always hear it is all about timing in sales.   Maybe if Martin stopped by on a warm sunny May afternoon, and complimented me on my nice green lawn and great roof on my house, I may have listened to what he had to say.  After all, I am a networker, so I am always looking to strike up a conversation especially with a budding entrepreneur.   Honestly, I am not interested in putting solar panels on my house, but I may give Martin some great referrals.  He may strike a few sales since I referred him!

LISTENING: In the world of sales, the hardest part is converting a lead to a prospect and a prospect to cash.   Before banging on someone's door and going on the offensive trying to convince someone to go solar.   Without saying what you do, ask some questions, first, do they want to save money on their utilities.  Who wouldn't?  Then ask, so how would you do that?   Sometimes, they would say maybe they will insulate their house, or change a few lightbulbs.   But what if they said that Joey down the street put some of these panels on the sunny side of his house and now he is getting free electricity.   Wow!  Martin has a great prospect!   Next question, is if they would consider solar for their home.  There is a good chance that Martin can convert this prospect to a sale.   I would put the odds at 3 out of 10.

RESEARCH:   Before you go dialing for dollars or knocking on door randomly in a nice neighborhood, do your research.  Would you go and try to sell solar in neighborhood that resembles a forest where sunlight is a premium?   You should go through the process of gathering, analyzing and interpreting information about a neighborhood and the demographics of the home owner and then determine if is it a fit before you start approaching potential prospects.    You can also research what your competitors are doing and if it is successful.   I bet your competitor is not going around a quiet neighborhood on a Saturday night in the middle of a snowy winter.

I am sure there are more tips and approaches out there.   My bonus tip is to be a regular person and think from the perspective of the other person, and finally, know your product/service.  I like to hear from you so please leave a comment and share my blog.   I have the utmost respect for sales professionals.   After all we are all in sales to some degree so the above tips may apply to you!

Are you Busy or Productive?

What was your answer the last time someone asked you, “How have you been doing?” If you said, “Busy,” you’re certainly not alone.  We hear it more often than not, and to be perfectly honest, we often feel the same way.

But here’s the deal: There’s a tremendous difference between being busy and being productive. Even more, there’s a big difference between productivity and focused productivity.

As the quote above suggests, being busy and productive without clarity about your priorities and a focus on what’s most important is useless. Heck, you could argue that it’s worse than useless; it’s potentially harmful and damaging.

So, how can you avoid the “productivity trap”? Here are a few ideas:

  • Make a “not-to-do” list. Write down all of the things you’re currently doing that aren’t worth the time and effort you’re spending on them. Delegate them, if possible, or…
  • Let go of the rest. Focus on the essential items, and if something is not important and not urgent, get rid of it. If you need help with this, check out Greg McKeown’s book Essentialism.
  • Plan ahead. Once you know what you will and won’t do, prioritize your to-do list. Some people do this weekly, but most people do it daily, mapping out their agenda for the next day the night before.
  • Do a daily recap. While you’re doing your nightly line-up for the following day, do a daily recap to see how you did. What went well? Where can you improve?
  • Clear the clutter. Clutter on your desk, your office, your inbox, etc., can be very distracting. Make sure you set aside time weekly to tidy things up. This not only helps keep things clean, it also helps you from getting sidetracked with spontaneous house cleaning.
  • Put one foot in front of the other. Sometimes the most daunting step is the first one. But rather than paralysis by analysis, just take one step—in any direction.
  • Batch similar tasks together. When you’re putting together your daily line-up card, batch similar tasks together whenever possible. Set aside dedicated time for emails, phone calls, projects, meetings, etc., rather than sporadically spacing them out. Every time you change tasks, there’s an opportunity cost; that’s right, we’re suggesting that you don’t multi-task.
  • Set a timer. If you have trouble being disciplined with your time, use a timer. This is an incredibly useful tool for most people. It helps create a sense of urgency, it can alleviate feelings of being overwhelmed, and it creates a light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.
  • Schedule mini-workouts. Physical activity boosts energy levels, helps manage hunger and blood sugar levels, improves cognitive function, and boosts productivity. Schedule 5- to 10-minute micro workouts during your work day.
  • Improve your communication. If you’re too wordy, you can be leaky valuable time and creating confusion. Keep things as simple as possible and focus on answering questions—not creating new ones.

When you combine productivity with focus, well … that’s where the magic happens.

Hope this helps!

How to Lose Weight (Actually Fat) w/ AIMC Health Solutions - Eight Great Tips

We are more than half way through the year and that big new year's resolution from the last New Year's Party is in the distant rear view mirror.   Since New Year's we have gone through a pandemic, racial unrest and even murder hornets.   But through it all, there is always one constant task, and it is to stay healthy and lose unwanted unhealthy fat.    Gut Health and maintaining an optimal weight goes a long way to having a strong immune system.

7 tips to keep 'weight loss' as a New Year's resolution - Times of ...

Of course, there are weight loss programs and all sorts of advice about the best most effective supplements, but there are also really basic tips that you can follow that will help you lose the fat and feel much more energized and healthy.

Here are eight great tips for you to try out with the help of a weight loss program or supplements.  Basic stuff!  Please let us know what you think!

1.  Drink Water a Half Hour Before Meals   - One study showed that drinking water a half hour before meals increased weight loss by 44% over 3 months.

2.  Eat a High-Protein Breakfast -  Eating a high-protein breakfast has been shown to reduce cravings and calorie intake throughout the day.

3.  Use Smaller Plates at Dinner - Studies show that people automatically eat less when they use smaller plates.  Strange, but it works.

4. Avoid Sugary Drinks and Fruit Juice - These are the most fattening things you can put into your body, and avoiding them can help you lose weight.

5. Drink Coffee or Tea -  If you're a coffee or a tea drinker, then drink as much as you want as the caffeine in them can boost your metabolism by 3-11%.    By the way, it is the milk/cream and sugar that makes the perception that coffee and tea is unhealthy.

6. Eat Mostly Whole, Unprocessed Foods -   Base most of your diet on whole foods.  They are healthier, more filling and much less likely to cause overeating.

7. Eat Your Food Slowly -  Fast eaters gain more weight over time.  Eating slowly make you feel more full and boosts weight-reducing hormones.

8.  Get a Good Night's Sleep, Every Night - Poor sleep is one of the strongest risk factors for weight gain, so taking care of your sleep is important.   A simple tweak to your bedtime ritual can have dramatic effects in shrinking fat tissue while reversing the signs of premature biological aging every time you fall asleep.

Try this tips out and let us know or your progress.    My recommendation is to write down your progress in a journal or on your phone so you know where you stand.

10 Recommendations to Change Your Life in 2020 from the DeSocial Connector

We are now in a new decade after one that was definitely defining in the world of information technology, marketing, health/wellness and entrepreneurship.

In the world of IT, it is cloud, Internet-of-Things and cybersecurity.
In marketing, it is social analytics and the death of traditional marketing.
In health/wellness, it is all about what we put in our bodies and how much we move.
In the world of entrepreneurs, it is all about the side hustle and why you need it today to survive financially.

The world is different and it you are not willing to adjust to the rapid change, you will be left in the dust!    With the experience I built over the past decade in IT, Marketing, Health/Wellness and Entrepreneurship, I like to provide 10 recommendations for you to get off to an amazing start this decade.

(1)  Focus on being proactive when it comes to great health.
I wanted to start with this one since, without great health, you will not be here reading this blog.   We are in a society of a quick fix, you know take a pill, or drink a shake or fake exercising.   You need to focus on your lifestyle and implement a fitness, supplementation, diet and mindset program now to get yourself off to a great start!

(2)  Get out there and network professionally.
You are never going to get ahead in the professional world, unless you connect with other professionals face-to-face and build lasting relationships.   If you are looking for a job, this is the only way to go.  Sitting behind a computer gets you nowhere.

(3)  Take social media seriously.
I heard it a lot out there, you know I don't do Facebook, Tik Tok or Instagram.   Social Media is the second coming of the First Amendment and it is out of control, but it is the best way to learn, connect and influence others.  There is a place and platform for everyone, just spend your time wisely on it.

(4)  This is not your parent's IT running our companies today.
Information Technology is no longer about building systems and on-call support.  Today's IT is about adaptability, the endless cloud and security.   It is also about getting out of your shell, or away from coding behind a couple of monitors, and partnering with your business to be a service provider.

(5) There is no more Corporate America.
Back in the day, the typical professional stayed at their company for 5, 10 even 20 years, and did the same job, while building a 401k and hoping for 65 to come soon.  This is not the case today.   Now we are in the world of constantly selling ourselves, building our personal brand and hoping we can stay consistently working.  We need to always be on edge that we may not have a job tomorrow.

(6) Side-hustles are cool.
I am in Information Technology, but love Marketing and Health/Wellness.  I build my side-hustle around my passion for Social Media and being healthy.    The great thing about side hustles are that it gives you hope for the future and you will notice that you are more positive about life.

(7)  Diets are not the answer.
The classic New Year's resolution is going on a diet especially after indulging over the holidays.   Generally diets don't work.  You cannot expect to drink a shake and/or skip meals and expect to be healthy.    Eat the right foods often, drink water and exercise, and you will see results.

(8) If you have a small biz, take digital marketing seriously.
Marketing is the #1 way for your future customers to know about your company.  So many times, business owners delay and don't focus on their website and that is ok.   I recommend getting a company to do it for you and build a great marketing campaign to show your customers how serious you are about your business.

(9)   Constantly education yourself.
I am going to be honest, watching American Idol does nothing for you.   Instead of sitting in front of a TV drinking coke, get out there in the evening and go to a meetup or a presentation on something that you are passionate about.   You will be networking, learning and may find something that you can focus on!

(10)  Get a mentor.
If you want to get healthy, find a healthy person to mentor you.
If you want to start a business, find a successful business owner to mentor you.
If  you want to switch careers, find someone that switched their career.
The first place to start is to find an influencer to get you started.!

I hope my recommendations can help you.  It is all about taking advantage of the life we have and to help others, so let's rock it in 2020 and be successful together!

DeSocial Connector on the Bob Cargill Marketing Show

I have been on many podcasts and interviews over the course of my career but it was an honor to be interviewed by Bob Cargill, the President of the American Marketing Association in Boston, who runs his own podcast, the Bob Cargill Marketing Show.

We conducted the podcast at the very site of my first ever business networking event at the Alumni Center on the campus of Northeastern University in Boston back in 2007. Since then I have started a company, AIMC Business Solutions, a business networking group, Mass Professional Networking and even had my own podcast, DeSocial Strategies, where i had guests from all types of businesses chatting about social media strategies.

Fast forward to 2019, I am back in the podcast world and had fun chatting with Bob on his show.

Bob and I discussed the state of digital marketing, health/wellness (one of my other ventures), music and more!

4 Ways to Shake Up Your Fall Fitness

When it comes to getting serious about fitness + healthy goals, most people think of January 1st as the only window you have to hit “reset” on your habits + routine, but why wait? The truth is, Fall is a great time to recommit to fitness goals or finally break that plateau with a set of exciting new exercises. As the weather changes, let the cool, crisp air breathe some new life into your usual routine with these 4 ways to shake up your Fall fitness!

Autumn is the transition from the busyness of summer to a more focused “back-to-school” vibe that you can still harness to refocus your energy and get back to you. This is a unique opportunity to set a routine that’ll carry you through the indulgent holidays and into the new year ahead of the curve! Since late fall gives us plenty of tempting reasons to stay inside—shorter, darker days and treats galore—getting your momentum before the holidays are in full swing is crucial! If you’re ready to tackle fall fitness like a pro, we’re here to help.

1. Take Advantage of the Outdoors

Without the heat and humidity that made summer workouts hard to stick to, outdoor workouts become much more comfortable as Fall rolls in. Especially after a hectic summer + back-to-school season, many of us are ready to get back to some sort of routine and Fall weather brings us some of the some of the best opportunities to take that long, awful treadmill session outside in the beautiful scenery!
Bonus: did you know that taking your Fall fitness outdoors actually has a number of benefits over sticking to your gym schedule? Whether you’re hitting the long trail or choosing to make exercise productive by taking on yard work, there are numerous benefits including:
  • Logging a harder workout: According to the American Council on Exercise, when you’re active outdoors your body is encountering a constantly changing environment. Keeping up requires your body to adapt need to all of the small changes in your surroundings like slight inclines, wind, or obstacles which means you work harder than if you were running on a treadmill!
  • No Membership Fees: With the holiday season right around the corner, wouldn’t it be great if Fall fitness didn’t add to the financial stress? With outdoor workouts, all you need is you!
  • Cleaner Air: While gyms (at least the good ones!) have decent ventilation systems that keep the air moving, those indoor systems still can’t provide the same clean air as the great outdoors! According to the Environmental Protection Agency, indoor spaces can be more polluted than outside. This is especially true in larger cities, which only adds to the list of pros.

2. Change When You #FindYourFit

Summer heat and early sunlight pushed many of us to earlier morning workouts, but this is more difficult when it comes to Fall fitness. Since the sun gets to wait until closer to 8 a.m. to wake up, it might be a good time for you to do the same! Working out at different times, whether it be over your lunch break or after work, will help to not only give you a much-needed break from super early mornings but can also help in getting your body out of its normal routine. Just make sure you’ve got your Isotonix ®Turn Down to help you slip into a restful sleep afterward! Switching it up has been shown to help break the mental and physical plateaus that hold us back, and seeing those results can be a great motivator.

3. Hop on the Treadmill (or Off of It!)

If you’re a cardio junkie (guilty!) then it’s time to take a brief hiatus from the treadmill, stair climber, or elliptical that’s been holding you hostage. Incorporating resistance or strength training will do wonders for shaking up your Fall fitness. Plus, the burn you get from strength training lasts much longer than the one from your LSS cardio session and you’ll see improvements in your overall body composition. Hello, little black holiday dress!
Don’t think that just because you hate cardio to begin with that you’re off the hook!  Shaking up Fall fitness means this also applies to people whos idea of cardio is running from the treadmill.  Taking a step back from the barbell to work in one or two days of cardio might be just what you need to trick your adapted body + brain into stepping it up!

4. Get Creative with Circuits

Between HIIT, tabatas, and circuit training, there are endless ways to turn your slow + methodical routine into a fast-paced + exciting heart-pounder!  Mixing different speeds + lengths of cardio with isolated and compound strength training transforms a long workout session from a simple walk into a full-body workout. Not sure where to start? Try some of the ideas below:
Outdoor Trail Circuit:
  • Warm Up: Walk 10 minutes
  • Easy Jog: 2-3 minutes
  • Run: 2-3 minutes
  • Sprint: 30-45 seconds
  • Recover: Walk or jog until your breathing returns to normal.
  • Strength Move: 60-90 seconds, complete as many of one of the following:
    • Push-ups
    • Triceps dips
    • One-legged squats
    • Split Squats
    • Burpees
    • Plank Hip Dips
    • Jump Squats
    • Side-to-Side Skater
This makes up one cycle! Do 4 to 6 cycles total. Be sure you’re mixing up the strength moves throughout your workout to make the most of your time!
Indoor Bodyweight Circuit:
  • Warm Up: Jump-rope 10 minutes
  • Tuck Jumps: 12-15 reps
  • Push-Ups: 12-15 reps
  • Jumping Jacks: 45 seconds
  • Rest: 30 seconds
  • Air Squat: 12-15 reps
  • Mountain Climbers: 12-15 reps
  • High Knees: 45 seconds
  • Rest 30 seconds
  • Tricep Dips: 12-5 reps
  • Glute Bridges: 12-15 reps
  • Burpees: 45 seconds
  • Rest: 30 seconds
Repeat this 3-4 times with 1 minute of rest in-between + you’ll feel the burn!
